Cookie Policy
This Policy explains the cookies used by pcf.org.pk. The short version, which the remainder of this document substantiates rather than qualifies: if you simply read this website, no cookie is set at all. Cookies are set only when you begin a donation, sign in, or leave a comment, and every one of them is strictly necessary to the function you asked for. We run no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking.
1. Scope and summary
- 1.1This Policy applies to cookies and comparable technologies used on pcf.org.pk and its sub-domains (the “Platform”), operated by Perfect Care Foundation (the “Foundation”).
- 1.2It forms part of, and should be read with, the Privacy Policy. Capitalised expressions not defined here bear the meanings given in the Terms and Conditions.
- 1.3This Policy is verified against the Platform as configured on the date stated in the document particulars. Where a change to the Platform alters the cookies deployed, this Policy is revised before that change is released.
2. What cookies are
- 2.1A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website and returned to that website on subsequent requests. It allows a stateless protocol to recognise that two requests came from the same browser.
- 2.2A session cookie exists only until the browser is closed. A persistent cookie survives until its stated expiry or until it is deleted.
- 2.3A first-party cookie is set by the site you are visiting. A third-party cookie is set by a different domain whose content is embedded in the page.
- 2.4A cookie is inert. It cannot execute, cannot read files on your device, and cannot carry a virus.
3. Related technologies
- 3.1Local storage and session storage hold data in the browser without transmitting it with every request. Page-building and interface components on the Platform may use them to remember interface state.
- 3.2Web beacons and tracking pixels are transparent images used to record that a resource was loaded. The Foundation does not deploy them on the Platform.
- 3.3References in this Policy to cookies include these comparable technologies where the context admits.
4. Our legal basis
- 4.1As Clause 3 of the Privacy Policy explains, Pakistan has no consolidated general data protection statute presently in force, and accordingly no domestic statutory cookie-consent regime binds the Foundation. The European ePrivacy Directive does not apply to the Foundation’s domestic activities.
- 4.2The Foundation has nevertheless adopted, as a matter of governance, the principle that a cookie which is not strictly necessary to a service the user has requested is set only with that user’s consent.
- 4.3Strictly necessary cookies are set without consent because the service the user has requested — completing a donation, remaining signed in — cannot be provided without them.
5. Categories we use
| Category | Purpose | Consent | In use on this Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Maintaining a donation session, authenticating a signed-in user, protecting forms against cross-site request forgery | Not required | Yes |
| Functional | Remembering interface preferences such as a dismissed notice | Required | Limited — see Clause 6 |
| Analytics | Measuring how the Platform is used in aggregate | Required | No |
| Advertising and retargeting | Building a profile to serve advertisements | Required | No — never |
| Social media | Enabling embedded social content and sharing | Required | No |
- 5.1Should the Foundation introduce a cookie in a category presently marked “No”, it will first implement a consent mechanism and revise this Policy, and the cookie will not be set before consent is given.
6. The cookies actually set
Merely browsing this website sets no cookie. Reading a page, viewing a Programme or reading this Policy places nothing on your device. The cookies below are set only when you take the specific action described in the last column.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration | Set when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
give_session_… | Donation software (first party) | Holds the state of a donation in progress so that the amount, designation and donor details survive the steps of the form | Session, up to 24 hours | You begin a donation |
give_session_reset_nonce_… | Donation software (first party) | Security token protecting the donation session against cross-site request forgery | Session | You begin a donation |
give_nl | Donation software (first party) | Records that you dismissed a newsletter prompt, so it is not shown again | Persistent | You dismiss the prompt |
wordpress_test_cookie | Website software (first party) | Tests whether your browser accepts cookies before attempting sign-in | Session | You visit the sign-in page |
wordpress_logged_in_… | Website software (first party) | Identifies you as a signed-in user and maintains the session | Session, or 14 days if you select “remember me” | You sign in |
wordpress_sec_… | Website software (first party) | Authenticates requests to protected administrative areas over a secure connection | Session, or 14 days | You sign in |
wp-settings-…, wp-settings-time-… | Website software (first party) | Remembers administrative interface preferences | Up to 1 year | You sign in as an administrator |
comment_author_… | Website software (first party) | Pre-fills your name and email if you comment again | Up to 1 year | You leave a comment |
- 6.1The ellipsis in a cookie name denotes a site-specific hash or user identifier appended by the software.
- 6.2Every cookie listed is a first-party cookie set by the Platform’s own domain. None transmits data to a third party.
- 6.3The administrative cookies are relevant only to Foundation staff and are listed for completeness.
7. Third-party cookies
- 7.1The Platform does not embed third-party advertising, retargeting, social-media or analytics tags, and accordingly no third party sets a cookie through the Platform’s own pages.
- 7.2When you are directed to a Payment Service Provider to authorise a payment, you leave the Platform and enter a page operated by that provider. That provider will set its own cookies, which are necessary to the security of the payment and are governed by its own policy. The Foundation neither controls nor has access to them.
- 7.3The Platform loads web fonts from an external provider. Such a request discloses your internet protocol address to that provider as an inherent consequence of retrieving the file, but sets no cookie.
- 7.4A page embedding a map, video or similar external resource may cause the provider of that resource to set a cookie. Where such an embed is present, this Policy will be revised to record it.
8. What we do not use
- 8.1We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, audience-building or cross-site tracking, and we do not participate in any advertising network.
- 8.2We do not sell, share or otherwise make available cookie-derived data to any third party, consistently with Clause 6.2 of the Privacy Policy.
- 8.3We do not use device fingerprinting, canvas fingerprinting, supercookies, evercookies or any technique designed to re-identify a user who has cleared their cookies.
- 8.4We do not use cookies to infer religious affiliation, political opinion, health status or financial standing.
9. Duration and expiry
- 9.1The durations in Clause 6 are those configured by the software concerned. A session cookie is removed when the browser closes; a persistent cookie expires on the stated schedule unless renewed by a further visit.
- 9.2You may delete any cookie at any time through your browser, as Clause 11 describes, without waiting for its expiry.
10. Consent and withdrawal
- 10.1Because the Platform currently sets only strictly necessary cookies, no consent banner is presented. Displaying a banner seeking consent to cookies we do not set would be an empty formality and would train users to dismiss a notice without reading it.
- 10.2If and when a functional, analytics or other non-essential cookie is introduced, a consent mechanism will be implemented which permits acceptance and refusal with equal ease, records the choice and its date, and allows the choice to be revisited.
- 10.3Consent, once given, may be withdrawn at any time by clearing cookies in your browser and declining on the next occasion, or by writing to info@pcf.org.pk.
- 10.4Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before it.
11. Browser controls
- 11.1Every mainstream browser allows cookies to be viewed, deleted, blocked entirely, or blocked only for third-party domains. The controls are ordinarily found under Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and site data.
- 11.2A private or incognito window discards cookies when it is closed.
- 11.3Browser settings are specific to each browser and each device, so a preference set on one device must be set again on another.
- 11.4The Foundation does not control and is not responsible for the operation of any browser control.
12. Consequences of refusal
- 12.1Blocking cookies entirely will not prevent you from reading any part of the Platform. All published content, including every Programme page and every policy, remains fully accessible.
- 12.2Blocking cookies will, however, prevent the completion of a donation, because the donation form cannot carry your amount and designation from one step to the next without a session cookie. It will also prevent signing in.
- 12.3A donor who prefers not to accept any cookie may contribute by direct bank transfer to the account particulars published in Clause 7.6 of the Terms and Conditions, which involves no cookie of any kind.
13. Do Not Track
- 13.1Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” signal. No settled standard governs how a website must respond, and the Platform does not alter its behaviour in response to it.
- 13.2This is of no practical consequence here, because the Platform does not track users across sites whether or not such a signal is sent.
14. Cookies and personal data
- 14.1Where a cookie identifier can be associated with an identifiable person, it constitutes Personal Data and is processed in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
- 14.2The retention of cookie and consent records is governed by Clause 12 of the Privacy Policy, and the rights described in Clause 14 of that Policy extend to such data.
- 14.3Server access logs, which record your internet protocol address independently of any cookie, are described in Clause 5 of the Privacy Policy and are retained for twelve months.
15. Changes to this Policy
- 15.1This Policy is revised whenever a change to the Platform alters the cookies it deploys, and in any event is reviewed annually.
- 15.2A revision bears a new version number and effective date, and the “last verified” particular records the date on which the cookie inventory in Clause 6 was last checked against the running Platform.
- 15.3Clause 19 of the Terms and Conditions governs amendment generally.
16. Complaints
- 16.1A complaint concerning cookies may be sent to info@pcf.org.pk with the subject line “Cookie Complaint”, and is handled under Clause 23 of the Privacy Policy.
- 16.2If you find a cookie on your device set by this Platform which is not listed in Clause 6, please tell us. We will investigate, correct the Platform or this Policy as the case requires, and reply to you.
